We’re living longer… and for many of us, that means we’re going to need (or want) to spend more years of our lives working, in some capacity…

For many of us, the changes or challenges we experience during our midlife years, both in and outside of the workplace, (career fatigue, stress, burnout, redundancy, divorce, loss of loved ones, health issues, ‘empty nests’ etc) can lead us to question the status quo, to look to re-evaluate our priorities, and to reset our relationship with work, so it better supports us as we look to make the most of the years ahead.

Whilst many of us want or need to continue working into the third quarter of our lives (50-75) (with all the positive benefits that can bring) – increasingly, we want to do it in a way that works for us!

Are you feeling disillusioned at work?

Becoming disillusioned at work is a common problem as we go through our midlife years - a career you once enjoyed can start to lose its appeal, or the workload can become overwhelming, leaving you exhausted and struggling to stay motivated. Over time, this can lead to unhealthy levels of stress, unhappiness and feelings of disconnection, frustration and resentment, which are likely to negatively impact other areas of your life and wellbeing. At some point you’re going to have to acknowledge that the way you’re working just isn’t sustainable.

Have your aspirations changed?

It’s not uncommon for our career aspirations, priorities and motivations to change as we go through midlife, often triggered by wider life changes. Your current work may no longer feel aligned with your values, or you may simply know that you want a different relationship with work in the next phase of your life, but be struggling to articulate what that is.
