About

About me

Having never really felt comfortable with my ‘working identity’ as an accountant, I spent my early midlife years harbouring the dream of moving away from my corporate career in Finance, into work that ‘felt more like me’. Work that enabled me to be more creative and to express myself more fully and more authentically. At that stage however, I had no real idea what that might look like, and with a demanding job, family responsibilities and significant financial commitments, the prospect of translating this into reality felt remote!

So instead, I continued to seek out non-routine Finance roles, where I could use my core skills in different contexts, to satisfy my desire for learning, exploration and growth, and try and achieve a better organisational fit. And for a time, this approach seemed to be working just fine…

As time went on however, I began to have an increasing sense that I’d reached the end of the road with role reinvention. Against the backdrop of a number of other mid-life events, the challenges of working in a performance-driven corporate environment from which I felt increasingly distanced, started to take their toll on my health and wellbeing. Eventually, it became clear to me that the way I was working just wasn’t sustainable any longer and that things needed to change.

Fast forward to 2023 and the creation of my coaching practice! This has enabled me to bring together:

  • my longstanding interest in health and wellbeing, self-development, longevity and the importance of staying active - in mind and body - as we age

  • the knowledge I’ve built up and interest I have around purpose, culture and values (both from an individual and organisational perspective)

  • the experience I’ve gained through 30+ years of working in professional and corporate environments, across multiple business areas including financial planning & analysis, corporate development, strategic planning, corporate communications, and sustainability

  • my personal experience of mental health issues at work, and the increased self-awareness and understanding I’ve developed around the underlying causes of these, through coaching, counselling, reading and self-reflection

Finally, I’m finding out what it means to be my authentic self, through engaging in work which is meaningful to me, and which enable me to make a difference, by helping others navigate challenges similar to those that I have faced, and to set themselves up for a new relationship with work, that better supports their wellbeing and longevity.
